Insanely behind on TV talk, but that's what happens when you watch seventeen shows. *sigh* Anyway! Now for something completely different! For the Literary Ladies We Love challenge (© lisal825):

LISTEN HERE @ 8tracks (download available upon request)

1. Burn It Blue - Caetano Veloso & Lila Downs [Astrid]
And she's free to fly, just a spark in the sky
Painting heaven and hell much brighter

2. Mother - Tori Amos [Astrid and Ingrid]
I walked into your dream
And now I've forgotten how to dream my own dream
You are the clever one, aren't you

3. Cold Blooded - The Pretty Reckless [Ingrid/Barry]
You can't trust a cold blooded woman
She'll love you and leave you for dead

4. Unashamed Desire - Missy Higgins [Astrid/Ray; Starr]
I don't wanna waste time holding down the truth
I've got everything to win and only pain to lose
This is my unashamed desire

5. Seven Steps to Heaven - Miles Davis [Olivia]
(instrumental)

6. How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead [Astrid at Amelia's; the dogs]
In a little while I'll be gone
The moment's already passed
Yeah, it's gone

7. Braille - Regina Spektor [Claire]
And she knew they were destined to become sacred road kill on the way
And she was listening to the sound of heavens shaking
Thinking about puddles, puddles and mistakes

8. Dragon Queen - Yeah Yeah Yeahs [Astrid/Sergei; Rena]
How are you not going to show your scar?
How are you not going to get high, high?

9. Te Amo - Rihanna [Astrid/Niki/Yvonne]
Te amo, te amo,
She's scared to breathe
I hold her hand, I got no choice

10. Titanium - Madilyn Bailey [Astrid]
I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away

11. Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan [Astrid/Paul]
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you

12. Things That Stop You Dreaming - Passenger [Astrid]
Well if you can’t get what you love, you learn to love the things you’ve got.
If you can’t be what you want, you learn to be the things you’re not.

White Oleander by Janet Fitch is one of my favorite favorite books ever; the language is stunningly poetic and the story is totally absorbing; Astrid is one of my all-time lady-heroes. Highly recommended (and the movie's great too, though it cuts a lot out, obvs). X-posted to Tumblr just because.
