written by fire on stone: an Astrid Magnussen fanmix
Insanely behind on TV talk, but that's what happens when you watch seventeen shows. *sigh* Anyway! Now for something completely different! For the Literary Ladies We Love challenge (© lisal825):

LISTEN HERE @ 8tracks (download available upon request)

1. Burn It Blue - Caetano Veloso & Lila Downs [Astrid]
And she's free to fly, just a spark in the sky
Painting heaven and hell much brighter

2. Mother - Tori Amos [Astrid and Ingrid]
I walked into your dream
And now I've forgotten how to dream my own dream
You are the clever one, aren't you

3. Cold Blooded - The Pretty Reckless [Ingrid/Barry]
You can't trust a cold blooded woman
She'll love you and leave you for dead

4. Unashamed Desire - Missy Higgins [Astrid/Ray; Starr]
I don't wanna waste time holding down the truth
I've got everything to win and only pain to lose
This is my unashamed desire

5. Seven Steps to Heaven - Miles Davis [Olivia]
(instrumental)

6. How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead [Astrid at Amelia's; the dogs]
In a little while I'll be gone
The moment's already passed
Yeah, it's gone

7. Braille - Regina Spektor [Claire]
And she knew they were destined to become sacred road kill on the way
And she was listening to the sound of heavens shaking
Thinking about puddles, puddles and mistakes

8. Dragon Queen - Yeah Yeah Yeahs [Astrid/Sergei; Rena]
How are you not going to show your scar?
How are you not going to get high, high?

9. Te Amo - Rihanna [Astrid/Niki/Yvonne]
Te amo, te amo,
She's scared to breathe
I hold her hand, I got no choice

10. Titanium - Madilyn Bailey [Astrid]
I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away

11. Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan [Astrid/Paul]
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you

12. Things That Stop You Dreaming - Passenger [Astrid]
Well if you can’t get what you love, you learn to love the things you’ve got.
If you can’t be what you want, you learn to be the things you’re not.

White Oleander by Janet Fitch is one of my favorite favorite books ever; the language is stunningly poetic and the story is totally absorbing; Astrid is one of my all-time lady-heroes. Highly recommended (and the movie's great too, though it cuts a lot out, obvs). X-posted to Tumblr just because.

I thought it was a Stieg Larsson character at first. Ha.

Heh, those crazy Scandinavians. That'd be an interesting crossover, really.

Ooh, would it work? I know very little about White Oleander.

Ahhh, read it! It's absolutely one of my all-time favorites. And yeah, y'know, I think there are similar themes between the two girls, about isolation and crime and sexuality...dang, now I almost want to read those books so I can write crossover fanfic that no one will read ever.

I will totally read it!! :D

You watch seventeen shows? Oh my God, when do you find the time?! x
extraordinary machine.: TV - Friendsla_petite_singe on October 21st, 2012 03:36 pm (UTC)
I KNOW, I KNOW. Things are worse than evar. *facepalm* I just have really good time-management skills, a job actually revolving around TV and very little social life. Though that last one's just good sense.

First of all, this is so beautiful and I'm so thankful and honored that you chose to participate in the carnival, so thank you for that! <3

Second, you have great taste in music! The songs I don't know on this list I now want to check out since the rest of your taste is so fantastic.

Also, I friended you. Seems like you're a great poster and we have a lot in common. Hope that's okay?

Oh, thanks! This was a very cool idea, thanks for posting. And sure, friend away! I usually just yammer about TV, but if you're into that then enjoy. ;)

Ha, we'll get along just fine then. I yammer about TV and books mostly, as well. Feel free to friend back!

I really like the songs you picked. Cold Blooded Woman is very sultry and dark.

I will have to read that book now.
