movies & books 2009
Well, we knew I had to do it.

NOTE: The way I do is that I count books/movies I'm reading/seeing for the first time in its entirety, no edits or abridgments or commercials allowed. Cinema or DVD or otherwise, class or recreational. ;)

loved it
liked it
no strong opinion/can't decide
disliked it
in the cinema* (for movies only, obvs)

-MOVIES-
001. Seven Pounds
002. Revolutionary Road*
003. Låt den rätte komma in
004. Gran Torino (predictable as hale + BatVoice = ehhhh)
005. Eagle Eye (if there's a movie you want to watch on an overnight, rather turbulent international flight, it is this one)
006. 28 Days Later...
007. Waltz With Bashir* (my first-ever cinema movie in London! I recognize that it was very good and the story is quite important, but I can't say I enjoyed it; I basically just wanted to kill myself the whole time)
008. Elizabethtown
009. Frozen River (it's quite good, but I'm not sure she's Oscar-nom-worthy...eh)
010. Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (German what the hey now?)
011. Che: Part One*
012. Frankenstein (1931) (batty and awesome. And Tim, I c what u did thar with the windmill in Sleepy Hollow, bb!)
013. Che: Part Two*
014. Bride of Frankenstein
015. Entre les murs*
016. Werewolf of London (just for the two awesome old drunk ladies)

018. The Young Victoria*
019. The Wolf Man (1941)
020. Vampyr: Der Traum des Allan Grey (er...was? Merkwürdig.)

022. Dough and Dynamite
023. The Road to El Dorado (HOW HAVE I NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. Most awesome, snarky, gay thing EVER. Seriously. Wiki sez it's canon. Oh man, I'm so happy XD)
024. Dragonwyck (best title ever, and young!Vincent Price is unarguably hot)
025. I Love You, Man*
026. Dracula (1931)
027. Sixty Six (Eddie Marsan + HB[I]C = ♥♥♥)
028. Dracula (1958) (also called Horror of Dracula--oh, Christopher Lee, you're fun)
029. X-Men Origins: Wolverine*
030. State of Play*
031. Crash (1996)
032. Coraline*
033. Valkyrie
034. Annie Hall
035. Trainspotting
036. The Brothers Bloom* (it reminded me a lot of The Fall--the plot's kinda eh at times, but when it's good, it's great, and the performances are excellent and the visuals are completely kickass)
037. All About Eve
038. The Soloist* (definitely better than I thought; worth seeing)
039. Star Trek* (FUCK YEAH!)
040. Up*
041. This Is Spinal Tap
042. Un long dimanche de fiançailles

045. A Scanner Darkly (has to be one of my top five RDJ performances, at least)
046. The Station Agent
047. Three Kings
048. JCVD
049. Vanishing Point (1971)
050. Angel Heart (reminded me a lot of The Ninth Gate. Starts off as a pretty strong mystery, and then descends into some weird-ass Satanic fuckery)
051. Bringing Up Baby
052. Away We Go*
053. Lolita (1962) (I think I like Sellers in this as much as in Strangelove, if not more)
054. Do The Right Thing (I have very mixed feelings about it, but I won't deny its quality)
055. A Clockwork Orange (I KNOW, I KNOW, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. Why the FUCK wasn't MMcD nominated?!)
056. Almost Famous
057. Wait Until Dark
058. Music Within (my mother: "Is that Post-It?")
059. Bonnie and Clyde
060. Amacord
061.
062. Being There
063. Public Enemies*
064. The Air I Breathe
065. Lost in La Mancha (interesting, but kind of agonizing to watch)

067. Suddenly, Last Summer
068. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince*
069. Rear Window*
070. Sunshine Cleaning (for some reason I really enjoyed it--it really wants to be In Her Shoes, but it's something special, somehow)
071. Natural Born Killers (Tarantino >>> Stone, but at least it's ballsy)
072. Swimming Pool (I love movies about weird writers. Wonder why)
073. L'heure d'été*
074. The Fountainhead (as a movie it's pretty good, but it's just nothing compared to the novel)
075. Wet Hot American Summer
076. Flags of Our Fathers
077. Moon*
078. The Hurt Locker* (the last half-hour is the best)
079. Julie & Julia* (funnier than I expected, but fairly forgettable. Needed moar Vanessa Ferlito.)
080. Letters From Iwo Jima
081. El orfanato
082. The Seven Year Itch
083. Paper Moon (I have realized it's the early version of Léon, which makes me happy)
084. 2046 (beautifully shot, but the story was just way too wrapped up in itself. IDG Wong Kar Wai, I'm afraid)
085. The Time Traveler's Wife* (again, decent, but doesn't even touch the book. And they messed up the end big-time)
086. Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg*
087. The Color of Money
088. District 9*
089. (500) Days of Summer*

098. The Descent
099. Plan 9 From Outer Space (pure gold)
100. Limelight (Chaplin + Keaton = ♥♥♥♥♥)
101. Inglourious Basterds* (I have issues with the movie itself, but it was such an enjoyable moviegoing experience that I'm giving it a few extra points. Especially the slow-clap that started after the theatre-burning scene.)
102. Adam*
103. Zombieland* ("You are like a giant cock-blocking robot designed in a secret fucking government lab.")
104. Taking Woodstock*
105. Gia

108. Paris (2008)*
109. Batoru rowaiaru (you would love this, Quentin. Only you.)
110. The Informant!*
111. The Boondock Saints (the accents were just plain Jamaican by the end, but I loved it anyway)

114. Brick
115. Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken (Zoller/Hellstrom? OH YEAH! Sort of.)
116. Taken (frivolous, predictable, totally fun)

118. Bright Star*
119. Leaving Las Vegas
120. Whip It*

124. Capitalism: A Love Story*
125. Tombstone (silly and fun, even better with slash goggles, as all things are)
126. Todo sobre mi madre
127. Les jolies choses (it's not very well done, but the concert scene at the end changes everything, esp. if you listen to the lyrics)
128. An Education* (it doesn't all quite...work, exactly, but it's very enjoyable)
129. The Damned United*
130. The Young Lions (exceedingly long, but worth it at times)
131. Where the Wild Things Are* (ever weirder than I would have guessed)
132. Camp Out (interesting, but I forgot that teenagers are annoying. Also, where's the B/T kids? And how about the black kid?)
133. Bedrooms and Hallways (Vorenus/Antony? OH YEAH!)

This is a good idea, I think I'll do this this year.

It's addictive, let me tell you. I think I have to do it every year now. ;)

How was Seven Pounds?
she's a hurricane in all kinds of weather: Film - Atonement[info]la_petite_singe on January 3rd, 2009 03:15 am (UTC)
It was...strange. Depressing. And mildly ridiculous--if they'd changed just a few plot points, it might have actually been really solid. The acting was all right; I always like Will, and Rosario's pretty charming. It just...oy. It's slow and you kinda don't know what's going on, but you're pretty sure you can guess and they're kinda not telling you. It's weird. But it does make you think and kinda stays with you in a way, and I always say that you have to give props to a movie that does that.

Gotcha. I had just heard mixed reviews so I wasn't quite sure if I should see it.

Seven Pounds looked really good. What did you think about it?
she's a hurricane in all kinds of weather: Film - Milk[info]la_petite_singe on January 3rd, 2009 03:17 am (UTC)
I thought it looked good too, and...it's weird. Deeply weird. It's almost really good, but then it does a few things that are just bizarre and make it a bit ridiculous. Will's performance is pretty great, though. He's always great. He seems to take roles that mean something to him & does them with all his heart, and I gotta give him snaps. ;)

Everyone on my flist has been posting their movies/books post, and I think you're the only one who already has a first film.

I predict Rose's count for 2009 will exceed 200. Just sayin. (:

Hee hee! Yay! And now I have two. ;) I must say, though, I may not do too well this year, since I'll be abroad from Jan-May, and I think they get movies later over there and I'm on a tight budget...etc. :( If I didn't hit 200 last year, I dunno if I will this year. But you know I shall try!
Casee[info]alovelyfix on January 3rd, 2009 10:08 pm (UTC)
Aw, fun, where are you going? I've been out of the loop and a horrible LJ friend :(

I'm sure even if you don't reach 200, you'll be closer than I could ever be! But I'm counting rewatches this year because I'm curious about that. Haha.
Courtney[info]thisl0veisreal on January 2nd, 2009 05:14 pm (UTC)
I'm doing something very similar. :)

I've never seen it, but I would love to eventually.

How the bloody hell did you see The Young Victoria?!!!
she's a hurricane in all kinds of weather[info]la_petite_singe on April 1st, 2009 06:49 pm (UTC)
Because I'm in London, missy! :D We went to the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey, so it just seemed a logical way to end the day.

she's a hurricane in all kinds of weather[info]la_petite_singe on April 1st, 2009 07:06 pm (UTC)
Maybe it was out here ~early~ because, ya know, queen and all that. IDK for sure. But believe me, there's tons of shit we don't have, like Sunshine Cleaning. :( I so want to see that. That'd be a fun double feature. And then go home and watch TDWP. "Well, I don't eat anything, and when I feel like I'm about to faint, I eat a cube of cheese."
Danneth[info]scimmia_romanov on August 10th, 2009 04:48 am (UTC)
Why is it that you've seen one movie you didn't like, and I've seen 21.
she's a hurricane in all kinds of weather: TV - The Big Bang Theory - Sheldon[info]la_petite_singe on August 10th, 2009 08:25 pm (UTC)
Because I am a far more scrupulous movie-watcher, whereas you will just watch anything insane and Italian. :D Also, because you are meaner than I am when it comes to these things. I'll give points for effort, and you're just like "NEIN SUCKEN! FAIL!"
